Lessons I learned doing craft fairs 2019

So it’s craft season and I was out there in full force.

I participated in many craft fairs in 2019. It started in October and went into December. At each one I learned something different and hopefully will carry over to next year. Here is what I think was a major take away for me from this years shows.

Christmas Craft Fair Grande Luxe Hotel 2019
Keep your color palette in mind when setting up your table. I have had many compliments on some of my items but it took a keen eye to find them as they walked by.
There was  too much on the table and tucked in the background. So focus the eye on some thing that will draw your customers in to take a closer look.
And walk by they will you only have a few seconds to catch your potential customers eye and even if they weren't looking for what you are selling if it's eye catchy they will zoom in to it.

Home Decor 2019
So here is a home decor piece that lots liked but I bet it doesn't stand out to you in the set up picture above. If there were fewer items and maybe bringing this up as a focal image.

 Craft Fair 2017
Here is two years ago set up and even though on closer look the items might be okay it isn't appealing to draw you in. Nothing is highlighted and it's hard to even know what is being sold at this table. It needs more height and varied levels. The two colors of table cloths are very distracting to the eye.  Ugh I wouldn't stop by this one it looks too disorganized.

Craft fair 2019 GLH
The one color purple table cloth went nicely over the small table. I noticed that the darker color was much better and so I learned a lesson here. Time to buy all black table cloths. I still think it's too messy. It needs to have some breathing room around the items so that the eye can rest.

Craft Fair 2018
Here I have levels and one color table cloth. There is nothing to draw people in I need something that will bring them closer to the table. This year I had my jewelry mostly and they didn't do well at all. One large item that is cute, brilliant, or remarkable. Not something that they would buy something that makes them say ah.

This was the outdoor fair December 2019 and I centered the table so that there was a nice little walk around. But should have placed it further in instead of center of the tent. Although I did get a lot of people to look I don't think it has the color to draws you in. If you look to the side the red table cloth is more inviting then my bland beige.

Terrorfest 2019
The Items at the top of the shelf do stand out and I focused on only a few things instead of everything. This display did get me a few emails. Not a lot of sales though, this was the first of this show and although it had a lot of attendees it wasn't my best one.

This was 2019 set up for Terrorfest. The lacy top cover really makes the difference over the beige colored table cloth. I'm using crates and narrow board across the top to achieve levels. I think out of all the pictures this is actually the best one.

It shows off some detailed items and makes the eye draw in. What do you think?

Alternative paper pumpkin December 2019

I absolutely enjoy the paper pumpkin kits as they are like little challenges in a box. I get two because I use one as it was intended and the other I make something that is different. December's kit had really great sentiments provided for all occasions. I am so glad I got that because I'm always looking for just the right sentiment. This first card isn't thrilling it's so simple it really could be done by a child. Hey thank you cards to Santa right?  I hope you enjoy this and if you want to be notified when I  upload please subscribe below and share. Thank you.

Using the daisy punches small and large I punched out two flowers from the one card front. I removed the card front and glued it to the back and then onto a card front.

The second card uses the punched out flowers from the first one. I added the stickers from the kit so the flower would stand out from the card. Using the new punch from sale-a-bration catalog I punched out some gold foil stickers with the left overs. Again I didn't add a sentiment yet, I just added the tag to show where it would go.

These punches make such a cute flower.

This punch is from the Sale-a-bration catalog and is free with a $50 purchase.

Kylie demonstrator blog hop December 2019

We all are going to need thank you cards for the generous and beautiful gifts that we get during the holidays.

 https://youtu.be/5s2wLdPetPk

Here is an example using the brand new Lily Impressions DSP. These won't be available till January 3rd, unless of course your a demonstrator. But there isn't a better reason to start now and get them in your starter kit.

Using notecards #.     I stamp out a design with the Free as a bird stamps set leaf and small flowers. I used stamp inks that match the DSP. Bermuda Bay, Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green and Gorgeous Grape.

Here is how I get the label punch to work for me and small sentiments. Just put the label back in on the side you want cut off and punch. Steady hands are needed here.

I cut the DSP into several different sizes for me to try I first cut 4.5 x 1.75 perfect size for these smaller note cards. I attached with double sided tape.

After I attached the DSP I then placed my sentiment over some areas that I felt weren't pretty. Then added a sequin to sparkle.

Now I wish I could send you all a thank you card for stopping by and subscribing. So since I can't let me say happy holidays and a big THANK YOU.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Don't forget to visit the other amazing Stampin' Up!® demonstrators from around the world. You are presently here with Maryanne's Creative Mix I hope you'll subscribe and leave a comment before you head off to see the others.

Stampin' Up!® shipping boxes
Tombow glue
Bone folder
scissors

A Circle punch 1-1/8 I used the scallop punch

Here's my link to the youtube video. I hope you enjoy making them and if you have questions or suggestions let me know.

milk carton treat holder march 2019

Here is my take on a milk carton treat holder for spring. I give them to the secretaries at the schools I visit and I think everyone likes a treat once in a while. So say happy spring and let's make some more. Inspired by so many on youtube like' scrimping mommy, paper pixie, and pootles papercraft.

Using a cardstock 81/4" x 51/2"
score long side at 1-7/8, 3-7/8, 5-5/8, 7-1/2
score short side at 1-7/8, 3-3/4, 5"

Mark the 1st and 3rd boxes on the top at the halfway point. To score a triangle for the milk carton top.
From the center mark to the intersecting lines on either side score a triangle.  Burnish all the folds. You may not be able to get the triangles to fold sharp but you can start them and then crisp them up once the box is made.

Mats should be measured on the box you make, everyone's boxes can be slightly different than another but just as a starting point. 1-3/4 x 1-3/4 mats should work. If you want to add additional matting just go down in size 1/8th of an inch on either side or to your liking.

I used glue to fold and punched holes at the top to thread string through to keep it closed. add your own sentiments.

These make cute gifts for craft fairs. I'm sure you can think of lots of things to put in them. Comment below if you make any.

Paper pumpkin alternative cards march 2019

My alternative card for March 2019

Happy Engagement!! Congratulations!

I wanted a simple yet different kind of card to say how happy I was to hear my son had gotten engaged. So I had to move quickly because waiting around for inspiration, in this case, wasn't going to cut it. Their happy news was thrilling to me and I wanted them to know as soon as possible. Video after video of cards for a wedding just didn't' fit the bill for me. Then in the mail was my paper pumpkin subscription. Here is the result of that.

Yes, I could have added more to the blank inside but what I didn't show you is my heartfelt joy on their announcement so I needed the blank space. It is plain on the outside but the card is all about the cake and I was happy with the results.

Ok ok, I didn't use Stampin up ribbon. At the moment I only have colorful ribbons and wanted something to make the card more weddinglike.

Thanks for being here and let me know what you think.

February dollar store mini album art collage 2/10/19

So this particular entry is actually the remnants of a wipe off paper I had next to my desk. I decided I'd make that the background for this entry. It looked like a dark force and a little character fighting it away

Sometimes that is what it is like when your feeling sad about something, It comes over you without even having anything happen to cause it. Lots of people say what's wrong and the problem is I don't know. I just know my mood is shifting I know it is going to be a blah day.

The character is fighting the darkness with her might powerful positive phrases. It doesn't always work but she continues to try. When she does feel overtaken by the dark day she just rests and doesn't ask herself to achieve anything except get through the day. This continues till the darkness flows past her.

She has tried to do fabulous wonderful things and sometimes it works, she will go have coffee with a friend, she'll go to a movie, or walk around the neighborhood. There are days though she is just better off resting and regaining her strength to fight the next day.

All in all we all have a darkness that we fight and sometimes we win and sometimes we have to rest then we face the day anew. I praise you who have fought the dark cloud that comes and goes. Don't dwell too long with it. Acknowledge it's presence and understand it is temporary. Go out and soak in the sun to replenish your soul to fight another day. Enjoy.
